How dogs become our best friends? There are a lot of arguments on the first time they become our most loyal companion. They have just enough intelligence to understand what we teach them more than any other animals.
I would prefer having a lion for my companion rather than dog but who am I to teach the King, right? But even though domesticated dog seems to not dangerous to us, there’s cases when they bite us back.
Training dog is hard work to do but there are things you can try by yourselves to train them without turning to any professional dog trainer. I was received my first dog when I went to my aunt’s place years ago when I was still a small boy and noticed she had this cute small dog, then I decided to take him home.
What did I do with the dog? Talk to the dog and play with him. He is loyal as hell, when I go home from school, he run to me. It’s an amazing feeling. The only problem I have with him is there’s bad smell everywhere because he take his dump everywhere in the house, and my grandma used to scold me a lot.
Six months after that, he died of a car accident, he crossed the street in front of my house. Then, that’s was the part I cry the most in my entire life. See, my inability to teach him that he must not crossed the street is my greatest despair.
Now when I’m older and own my purchased dog, I train him simple think and make sure he doesn’t run freely unless I take him for a walk.
Make Them Sit
This is the basic step for me to communicate with my dog, so it’s definitely a good one to start with. I usually hold a stick/treat or anything (it doesn’t matter but be sure that it’s the one that put their attention to) close to my dog’s nose, then I move up so his/her head follow my stick and automatically he lower his bottom. Once he in the sit position, I say “SIT” loudly and give him the stick. Then I repeat for few times until he understand this kind of command.
Make Them Come
To do this, I take a collar on my dog, sit down, and say “COME” while I pulling the collar towards me. Then when he go to my side, I give him a treat. It’s not easy job to do, sometimes, they just go the other way, but after couple of times trying, I manage to do this.
Those simple basic commands open a whole path to teach them more complex commands.
